The Bealey Spur.

When we asked the woman working at the Department of Conservation hut if there were any good hikes nearby, she said, nonchalantly, that there was a decent one just down the road. It was raining at the hut, but she said that the hike was probably dry. We decided to give it a shot, and we learned that the Kiwis have very high standards for their tramps. Here are a few shots from the decent Bealey Spur.

Tree trunks in New Zealand: Part I.

The first of many pictures of tree trunks. For whatever reason, tree trunks in New Zealand are much more interesting than those I have encountered in the United States.
